I absolutely recommend Jerry Pykiet and Blue Brook Consulting. While, before, we worked hard to find direction in our assembly department, a lack of time and an abundance of new projects kept us from focusing on developing and optimizing our assembly line. Jerry came in and worked directly with our assembly department, coaching us on Lean methodology and the continued goal of eliminating waste and non-value added process steps. Our owners understood the benefits of Lean and were interested in the implementation of many of the core tenets, so Jerry couldn’t have come at a better time. My own professional experience working with Jerry in a leadership training and coaching capacity was an insightful one; Blue Brook’s training materials are thoughtful and well-designed, improving the whole experience of helping guide a workplace cultural shift. Jerry’s expertise and commitment to understanding our people and processes allowed him to hone in on our “whys” and helped guide the assembly department towards a mindset of continuous improvement. Most impressive: Jerry was able to get our Assembly department truly (and quickly) engaged and excited about Lean. Before Jerry started working with us, I “knew” buy-in would be a coin toss. This proved to be an incorrect assumption. Jerry told me how we would do it, then proceeded to execute that plan. Before we started working with Jerry, our assemblers were batch producing finished goods. Not only did Jerry teach us how “one piece flow” reduces cycle times with actual experiments, but he physically helped us build out the line. Every session, Jerry worked on the shop floor with the assemblers to help them design a workplace that helps them to respect each other and our customers. Better yet, Jerry made the experience fun and easy to understand. This was really important, since some aspects of Lean can seem a little strange to team members if they aren’t examined much deeper than surface level. Jerry had exercises, experiments, and games chambered that helped this new way of thinking sink in for the assembly department.
